Tanner Tolbert talks about dealing with father’s cheating and parents divorce

Bachelor alumni/Newlyweds Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert are forced to reveal some painful childhood experiences on Friday’s episode of Marriage Bootcamp. After Jade confesses that she and her husband of one year have no emotional connection. (Shouldn’t they have figured this out prior to wedding?)

“I don’t know if Bootcamp is working for Tanner,” …….“I’m scared to death about you and I having no emotional connection.”

Tanner, 29 then talks about how difficult and bizarre his parents divorce was.

“I had to be the one to be strong for both of them, and mediate it — take the emotion out of it,” he says. Then he shares the shocking story of how he and his sister Kara, 27 learned their dad, Stephen Andrew Tolbert was cheating on their mom, Karin Barragato when he was 14.

“My mom hired a real private investigator — they caught film of [my dad and the other woman] leaving the airport together,” ….. “And then we had movie nights a lot on Friday nights, so my dad’s sitting there with popcorn, thinking everything is cool. My mom put on the VCR … and out comes this private investigator footage.”

“Wait — you and your sister saw this?!” Jade interjects.

“I love your mom, but that’s not okay,” says Jade. “A parent shouldn’t drag a child through their s—.”

“Well, your mom was not the best either,” Tanner replies.

Tanner then tells the group that he doesn’t think his mom did anything wrong as therapists Dr. Ish Major and Dr. Venus Nicolino watch from a separate room.

“Tanner’s not making the connection yet,” says Major. “Dad cheated on Mom, and he’s not sure what it means.”

Incidentally his mom lives in Hollywood now and does makeup. His father is still in Kansas.

Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars airs Fridays (9 p.m. ET) on WEtv.
