Chris Harrison handles the Brooks Forester situation

Chris Harrison promised us the “most dramatic finale yet” and that is a pretty tall order after so many seasons of Bachelor/ette love and situation handling. But Part one certainly delivered the goods last night and we got to see a never before seen situation handled by Chris Harrison.

On this weeks episode Desiree Hartsock took the final 3 men on overnight dates in Antigua. But it quickly became clear that Desiree only has eyes for Brooks–let’s be honest and stop pretending anyone else has even been in the running.

But unfortunately, her Fantasy Suite date with Brooks took a shocking turn.

chris-talks-to-brooks3-1375147155I was actually recently telling Penny Farthing that something is off with Brooks. Of course we did consider the possibility that he was gay, but after much deliberation, I decided I don’t think it’s that. I think it’s that he has a serious freak sex hang up. It may have to do with being abandoned at a young age by his father who incidentally worked for the CIA (You can not make this stuff up). That has got to do a number on a child.

But I knew Brooks was not going to be attracted to a normal super cute totally appropriate girl. He was gonna be attracted to something totally freaky and outside the norm.

So I was not shocked in the least to hear about his hot and heavy fling with the 51-year old woman. This is a guy with some issues. And we all know people like to work their “issues” out through their sexual attractions.

He says “a hard conversation now is a lot better than a horrible conversation later” to his mother and sister.

Ut oh!!!!!

So cut to Chris Harrison in the armchair. Harrison steps up in yet another emmy-worthy moment to gently let firmly counsel Brooks on what he must do. Chris inquires if his parents’ divorce had prompted his inability to commit. Clearly, Chris has comprehensively reviewed all facets of said situation as the consummate professional that he is and he has determined Brooks must break it off with Dez.

BROOKS, DESIREE HARTSOCKChris Harrison on Brooks— There Were ‘Warning Signs’

In his blog for Entertainment Weekly he says this:

All along there have been red flags regarding how he feels about Des.  At the same time Brooks said he was jogging, Des said she was running to the finish line. When you love somebody at this point in your life, you say it like Chris [Siegfried] and Drew [Kenney] have done. And if you look at Brooks’ body language and his eyes as Des says she’s running, it really says it all. His look screamed out, “What the…? Oh really?”

I’ve asked Des several times along the way if she was concerned about the fact that Brooks never really expressed his feelings. Because she was so in love with him, or so she thought, she either couldn’t see these warning signs, or was “running” so fast that she blew right past them. I guess we all believe what we want to believe. At no time, however, did I think it would come to this. Yes, there were warning signs, but I believed that what Des was telling me about him was true, and that he gave her many other signs that it was all there.

He tells Brooks what he has to do and the rest of the episode unfolds in the most shocking ending to part one of a Bachelorette finale ever!
