Who is 2NE1?

Monday night Juan Pablo Galavis took his ladies and their trove of luggage to Seoul, South Korea to get the K-Pop dance party started with South Korea’s big music sensation 2NE1. 2Ne1 is a four-member South Korean girl group composed of CL, 22, Minzy, 20, Dara, 29, and Bom, 29 formed by YG Entertainment in 2009.

Juan Pablo Galavis and his ladies learned some dance moves from the Asian pop stars.

The group has taken the world by storm selling 27 million digital downloads. Their name combines the phrases “21st century” and “new evolution”.

First appearing in “Lollipop”, their first EP  “I Don’t Care” was a number one single and won them the “Song of the Year” award at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards.

K-pop is an abbreviation of Korean pop; 가요 kayo  The popular genre originated in South Korea and is characterized by a variety of audiovisual elements and experimentation with different music styles and foreign musical elements.

Time magazine calls K-pop “South Korea’s Greatest Export” since in the first half of 2012, it grossed nearly US$3.4 billion.

2NE1 made their official debut in Japan in September 2011 kicking off their official debut with Nolza, which was promoted by the release of various singles  – including Japanese versions of “I Am the Best”, “Hate You”, and “Lonely”. 2NE1 landed in second place on the Japanese iTunes chart and fourth place on the Oricon charts on the day of its release.
