‘Dr. Robert Caridi and Dana Caridi on Good Morning America’ May, 1989
23-year-old Bachelor contestant Olivia Caridi was literally ‘born’ to be on reality television. Back before the first episode of The Real World had even aired on MTV Olivia’s mom and dad were filming reality segments with GMA (ironically GMA is a staple of the Bachelor journey), on their budding love story and eventual wedding.
Mom Dana Caridi (Gellert) is from Menasha, Wisconsin and dad Dr. Robert Caridi is from Brooklyn, New York, but in the late 80s both were living in Manhattan.
Olivia’s parents met at a night club in Manhattan on Valentine’s Day as they explain — and mom Dana was the pursue-er as she walked up to dad Robert and asked him to dance. Mom was 28 at the time and a graphic designer and Bob was 31 and a Plastic surgeon doing his residency.
And at that time the two decided to put their relationship on camera document how they met and why they wanted to spend their lives together.

Both seem very comfortable in front of a camera BTW— so you can see it’s literally in Olivia’s DNA.
Dana explains that one thing that drew them together was their similar economic backgrounds (I assume they both come from blue collar backgrounds judging from Dana’s small town roots in Wi).
But the young couple does concede that it has not always been smooth sailing and that they broke up for a short period of time. But after 3 years of courting they were ready to walk down the aisle and seal the deal.
The two were married on June 9th 1990 in Outagamie, Wisconsin.
This video is really interesting as its on the forefront of reality television, particularly following a real life love story. You can see GMA does segments with the couple at different points over the years to check in on their relationship.
And obviously the couple did something right because they are still together and have raised two beautiful and successful daughters. Eventually Dana and Bob moved to Austin, Texas where they raised their girls. But Olivia claims that she REALLY wants to return to Manhattan someday.
This video begins in May of 1989 and follows them through the birth of their first child.
