By now we have all heard that ex-Bachelorette contestant and fan favorite Emily Maynard will be this upcoming season’s Bachelorette. This will be the 8th Season of this Emmy-worthy (yet shockingly non-Emmy nominated) show, which premieres on Monday, May 14 on ABC. So, in case you need a primer on all things Emily, we here at Ok! Here is the Situation are here to catch you up!
Emily Maynard became famous on Brad Womack’s second season as the Bachelor when she won the heart of Bachelor Brad, as well as a $90,000 Neil Lane ring — the most expensive ring in recent Bachelor history.
Sadly and shockingly, the relationship didn’t work out — perhaps as a result of Emily “poking the bear” (aka Brad’s siblings’ nickname for stirring up Brad’s “anger management issues”). [Sidenote: During Ben's season of The Bachelor, winner Courtney Robertson also said, "don't poke the bear" to fellow contestant Emily O'Brien, referring to herself. I mean, what is up with all of this BEAR POKING? We had no idea this was such a HOT phrase?!]
Brad Womack told People magazine that he was responsible for the failure of the relationship. “The demise of our relationship was completely my fault.” In July 2011, Emily told Chris Harrison: “I’ll always be in love with Brad. No one will ever hear me say a bad word about him — nor will I tolerate anybody else saying anything bad about him. Not a day will go by that I don’t regret how things have turned out.”
Let’s hope she isn’t still in love with Brad now! That would make for the most awkward season in Bachelorette history!
More About Emily: We all know about Emily’s famous ex-fiance Ricky Hendricks, the professional NASCAR driver that was tragically killed in a plane crash on October 24, 2004 — a mere six years prior to her stint on The Bachelor. At the time Ricky was killed, the two had been dating for four years (since they were 15 years old), and engaged for about six months. Shortly after Ricky’s death, Emily found out she was pregnant with her now-5-year-old daughter Ricki.
