From the moment Kalon McMahon stepped out of his helicopter (forgoing the standard Bachelorette limousine), it was obvious he was going to be a “situation”. Then we learned he was a former model (also a situation) and a “luxury brand consultant”! So how in the world was Emily so shocked tonight when she learned Kalon had referred to Little Ricki “baggage”?
Doug (who is an enneagram personality type 2 and loves to “help”) informed Emily that Kalon had referred to her daughter as “baggage.” When she confronted him with these allegations, he admitted to calling Little Ricki baggage but argued that he didn’t mean it in a “negative way” and then refused to apologize. Emily was so outraged by this comment that she told Kalon to “Get the f@ck out” in front of the other guys. But the other guys don’t step in and back her up (probably because they were so taken aback and turned on by Emily’s brashness).
In that moment with Kalon, Emily finally appeared self-confident and self-assured. For the first time all season, she becomes super-hot as she gives Kalon the boot. But, she unfortunately quickly disintegrated back into self-doubt and insecurity mode shortly thereafter, lashing out at the guys for not stepping in to handle the problem in what will now go down in Bachelorette history as the infamous “Kalon Situation!” We have an official “situation” people!
It was such a bummer because for a split second we saw Emily’s true potential to be a very self-possessed and healthy, autonomous individual, making her even hotter that she already is. But then, in a flash, it was over. She then reverted back into standard Emily mode — pulling the guys aside one by one to grill them as to why they didn’t “have her back”. Arie probably experienced the most flack for some reason. But the truth is, the guys didn’t really do anything wrong!
For one thing, why was Emily so shocked when she already knew Kalon was a douchebag? She claims she was giving him the benefit of the doubt, but he’d said way too many d-bag things to her throughout the first 4 episodes for her to be taken so off guard that he wasn’t really there for the right reasons. And in the moment of “the Kalon boot,” she had a complete handle on the situation and dealt with it beautifully. Why couldn’t she stop there?
Why can’t Emily be that awesome all the time? Why can’t she tell more guys to “get the f@ck out!” She is great when she transcends her insecurities and her fears about being abandoned and just acts like a real, self-confident person — not worried about other people jumping to her rescue.
No matter how much you grill someone, if they are going to leave you they are going to leave you and you can’t control that. So just relax and give these guys a break and give us more of that girl that handled “The Kalon Situation!” (BTW – We are going to re-watch the episode again today to count how many times either Emily or one of the guys referred to “The Kalon Situation” as “The Kalon Situation.” We remember it being enough times that it was starting to get super funny. I mean, we run a site called Ok! Here is the Situation, so we love it when someone correctly and officially labels a SITUATION as such!)
