The new star of ABC’s The Bachelorette, 26-year-old Desiree Hartsock didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in her mouth. In fact she grew up quite poor. Her family moved multiple times living in several places, mostly in Florida, before settling in Northglenn Colorado, in 2001.
We saw a glimpse of Desiree’s family life on Sean Lowe’s season of The Bachelor when we saw her brother confront Sean about being a Playboy. But in a recent interview with ET, Desiree revealed more about how she grew up. Her parents have been married for 35 years, but together for 40 years and she insists that despite being poor she was extremely blessed with lots of love from her family.
She says in the interview:
I never thought this would ever be an opportunity that I would come across. I haven’t had the most extravagant life. My childhood was very humbling. We lived in an apartment where my brothers room was the living room not a lot of money not a lot of nice things. Everyday I felt blessed for what we had.

Desiree’s big debut episode is Monday, May 27 from 8-10 p.m.
After her high school graduation, she moved to California where she attended Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.
She claims in her ABC bio that:
“Although her family was of modest means, they were rich in love. Their values helped guide (her) to become an industrious, passionate and creative woman who loves living in California and working hard to make her dreams come true.”
