In honor of Burning Man 2012 we thought we’d share a blast from the past of C Lo and Penny Farthing’s adventures in Black Rock City.
Remember way back in 2007 when “Pimp Yo’ Ride” was all the rage on MTV?
Well we (and by “we” I mean we followed the lead of a mega potty enthusiast who led the charge, “Phil”) ran with that theme taking the “Pimp Yo” to a brand new place. In fact we brought art to a place that art had never been brought before ….to the Burning Man porta potties. Our camp soon came to be named Camp “Pimp Yo Potty” — a name I immortalized in a giant el-wire sign in the shape of a toilet seat that flashed like a beacon through the night. It stood next to a giant map of Burning Man showing the potty banks that were pimped (lit up in flashing lights) so Burners could find their way to the least traumatic and most luxurious potty experience on the playa easily and effortlessly.
It’s impossible to have a conversation about Burning Man without discussing the disgusting mega-situation of the BM porta potties…I mean they take disgusting to such a level that you have to have an out of body experience to endure the pain. But they are also so disgusting you sort of have an out of body experience and transcend judgment to a place of total zen and acceptance.
That said, led by our fearless leader “Phil” who will remain just “Phil” to protect his identity we aspired to take art to a place Burners had never expected…the potties.
The job was by no means easy. We had a 25 foot U-Haul filled with boxes of items to decorate said potties. Not to mention the maintenance was grueling. Each potty had to be tended every night to ensure freshness and the ultimate luxury experience. I mean there were candles to light, incense to burn, batteries to change, and most importantly plush toilet paper to install (the 1 ply that comes in the potties was not gonna cut it).
You can see from these testimonials, all the hard work was well worth it!!!
There is no better way to give back than to make the most traumatic situations in life a little less traumatic and a little more amazing!
