Eden Sassoon is the newest face to join the cast of season 7 of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The 42-year-old entrepreneur has certainly led a charmed life as the daughter of hair icon Vidal Sassoon, but she has also had her share of tragedy and family drama.
Her older sister, actress, Catya Sassoon died of a drug overdose at age 34 in 2002.
On her debut episode of The Real Housewives Eden opened up about how Catya had became addicted to drugs while partying in the ’80s with Robert Downey, Jr. and Kim Richards.
It all comes full circle doesn’t it. Interestingly Catya spoke of the tragedy as though she knew it was coming and it was inevitable.
“For a long time I was numb, very numb to it, and completely shut off.” Eden explained to Lisa Rinna and Erika Girardi.
In the 80’s Catya had a budding acting career. Her first movie role was 1985’s Tuff Turf co-starring James Spader, Robert Downey, Jr. and Kyle’s sister, Kim Richards.
“This was way way back in the day, when my dad bought Frank Stallone’s house in Bel-Air,” Eden said. “Kim would come over with Robert Downey — and Robert would play the piano like crazy. I was like ‘Who are all these, like, insane [people]’ ”
“Sure enough they all sort of had their stuff,” Eden said. “I think on this set was the beginning of everybody’s drug and alcohol abuse, if you really look at it. It was kind of pre-f—ed up days.”
Eden says she remembered her sister Catya as being “alive” and “vibrant” at the time. But she also recalls that things took a dramatic turn.
We all know what happened to Robert Downey Jr. in the 90’s. Although we also know that he presently appears to be doing great–same with James Spader. Catya sadly did not make it out Ok. and Kim Richards is always hanging by a thread. I imagine this interaction with Eden will be a rough ride down memory lane for Kyle.
