Tonight the much anticipated finale of The Bachelor aired and Matt James chose the very controversial Rachael Kirkconnell over Michelle Young. But there was no Neil Lane ring, no engagement, nothing but a promise to continue dating exclusively.
I am not surprised given that Matt is an Enneagram 6. He is all about safety and security first. And nothing is safe about getting engaged after 9 weeks on a reality show. So kudos to him for having the balls to stand up to producers and forgo the Neil Lane engagement ring.
We watch poor Matt tortured over the monumental task of choosing a life partner.
So he turns to host Chris Harrison to go to Rachael’s door and tell her final date is canceled because Matt is confused and needs time to think. So no handmade collages of their very meaningful 9 week romance is exchanged.
Rachel is left to perseverate on what Matt is thinking.
The next day, Rachael gets a note from Matt, apologizing for not meeting her the day before asking her to meet him.
She arrives to a stunning scene of Pier 1 decor hinting at a climatic conclusion. Once she gets there, it’s set up like the final rose ceremony. Rachael proclaims that she’s in love with him and doesn’t want to be without him.
Matt then tells Rachael he loves her. But, he says, he can’t propose.
But he also offers her the final rose and a solid promise to continue as a couple.
Now to the BIG question. Are Matt and Rachael still together?
According to Reality Steve via Twitter the couple had already broken up in late February.
On February 22, Matt released a statement on Instagram expressing his displeasure with what had happened on and off camera.
