What is up with all the guys with situations this season?!?!!
Michael Nance
I mean, we have Michael Nance the rehab counselor/guitar teacher (for blind students) from Austin, Texas and his recent addiction to painkillers.
In a deleted scene from the show, Michael revealed,
“I was addicted to prescription drugs…somewhere along the line. It’s a vicious cycle…I’m almost 2 years sober now.”
All signs point to…this guy is a mess!! I mean, there’s nothing hotter than a guy recovering from an addiction to Vicodin.
Also, NO soon-to-be-husband/father-in-a-mere-9-weeks should have “Kickstarter” on their resume. Yep. Apparently he got his entire last album funded via the popular “DIY panhandling” website Kickstarter. [We here at Ok! Here is the Situation think Kickstarter has it’s place, but for the most part it’s being used for the most ridiculous of “please just give me money” reasons. More on the situation that is Kickstarter later!]
This is “NOT OK” Bachelor producers! I don’t care if he did get his entire album funded! No guy with his shit together has Kickstarter on his resume!!
Michael attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 2009 with a degree in biomedical science. When he’s not recording soulful jams, Michael’s working as a rehab counselor at MAP Accountability Services, an organization assisting addicts in the difficult recovery process. Back in August 2011, Michael tweeted this photo of his efforts at work, adding the hashtag: #imakeworkasfunaspossible.
It sounds like Michael has some skeletons in his closet (but don’t we all)! It’ll be interesting to see how Emily Maynard responds/reacts to Michael’s past — despite how much he’s turned his life around since.
Doug Clerget
Then we have contestant Doug Clerget, who is giving Michael Nance a run for his “total mess“ money. Doug is a real estate agent from Seattle…. and a convicted felon. He was first arrested back in the ‘90s for petty theft. The charges were dropped.
According to Star Magazine, on December 10th, 2000 he was arrested and jailed for assaulting the mother of his child with a weapon (and is now courting single mom Emily). Star Magazine obtained the police report. It contends the situation:
“got physical when he pushed her and held her against the wall,” and the situation spiraled out of control when Doug grabbed a shotgun, meandered out into the backyard and started firing into the dirt. Oh, reality stars.
Apparently, Doug was just trying to “scare” his girlfriend, but she thought he had committed suicide and had her mom call the police. To make matters worse, her mom claimed that Doug “physically abused [her daughter] in the past.”
He was arrested for reckless endangerment, spent one night in jail and was ordered to complete a rehab program! I mean, I know we all fell in love with Doug during the premiere of The Bachelorette when he won the “first impression” rose for giving Emily a heart-warming letter from his 12-year-old son, Austin, but……COME ON! This guy does not sound like Emily Maynard husband material!!
Charlie Grogan
Finally, we have Charles (Charlie) Grogan — the 32-year-old recruiter from Oklahoma City who apparently has a severe speech problem due to a fall. His injury occurred in 2010 when he fell from a balcony at a good friend’s house (an apparent professional baseball player).
Charlie’s face is half titanium as a result of his injury. And he did sue for $5 million in damages, but we don’t know how much he received in the end. Needless to say, the condition has apparently resulted in severe stage fright. Not good when you are on a prime-time television show! (But he was still adorable explaining the situation to Bachelorette Emily during episode 2).
But, the catch here is that after Charlie faced his fears and performed well during “The Muppets group date,” Emily said of Charlie, “I’m a proud Momma.” That is NOT a good sign for romance. It is sweet and endearing and hopefully being on the show will help build Charlie’s confidence, but no signs are pointing to romance for the potential Emily-Charlie pair.
In the end, we just keep having to ask ourselves: What is going on ABC!?!?! So many guys, so many situations!
