Is Lance Armstrong being framed for something he didn’t do?

As the official conspiracy theorist here at Ok! Here is the Situation, it is my job to investigate and consider current situational conspiracies.

I have been watching the Lance Armstrong interviews and to be honest I never even considered the possibility that he may be totally innocent before, but after seeing his posturing and the media’s bizarre treatment of the American icon I am left wondering….

Is Lance Armstrong being framed for something he didn’t do?

It’s not that I think everything is a conspiracy and like I said I’d love to jump on the Lance Armstrong hate parade, but after watching the interview and the media I am left totally confounded.

I know that sounds crazy and even I had to wonder why would anyone frame him? But his behavior in the Oprah interview is

not the behavior of a narcissist or an asshole, it’s the behavior of someone that is being forced to confess to something he did not do.

So obviously the big question is why? Why would anyone do that?

Apparently the charges were filed right after he was involved in lobbying for a new tax on tobacco. The USADA immediately came out and filed the charges. So there is one possibility. But I’m not going to put all my money on that theory. Plenty of people have proposed tobacco taxes to pay for medical research. Not to mention there is an equally powerful lobby that benefits from tobacco taxes so worst case scenario Lance could just align with those interests.

So the next place I would look is at the Livestrong organization. Was it actually doing too much to cure cancer? (I know it’s sad, but I actually think most cancer non-profits have no interest in curing cancer, or at least the companies who receive the research money don’t. I’ve had a lot of friends in Biotech and they quickly learned the companies don’t want to cure anything).

Here is an interesting article on the Livestrong Foundation and the search for any wrongdoing. Gifford ultimately admits that after visiting LiveStrong he could not find any hard evidence of serious wrongdoing. It doesn’t appear that Livestrong was doing anything wrong, but it also doesn’t appear like Livestrong was doing anything “too right” to threaten the Biotech billion dollar industry. So without more compelling evidence I can’t get behind either one of these possibilities.

But still what really bothers me about the Armstrong case is Lance’s behavior. His body language does suggest he is lying but not in the way you would think. It suggests he is being forced to lie and he is disgusted at the words that are coming out of his mouth. He looks down when he answers questions or maintains a blank stare. He consistently covers his mouth indicating his words are not his.

When someone is being forced to lie they try to make statements that are actually true because it is so difficult for them to say things that are not. Notice how Armstrong says “All I can say I view this situation as one BIG lie”, which of course is true if he is being forced to lie. His interview on Oprah is “one big lie”. His confession to doping charges is perhaps “one big lie”.

The other unnerving thing is the behavior of the media. The media has again and again injected powerful accusations and judgments against Lance claiming “he is an arrogant bully”. Despite how the media figures may feel, it is not their place to make such emotional charges. It is their job to just report the facts.

Lance consistently acted like someone that was innocent of the charges and was the victim of a witch hunt until he made the confession. But he never acted like someone who was guilty and no matter how “arrogant” the athlete is, his confession should provide him some relief. It is also odd that he would do the Oprah interview considering the legal ramifications of making such admissions.

So I do believe Lance is being forced to admit to something that either isn’t entirely true or isn’t true at all, but the question is still, why?
