It was over a year ago that we received the very sad and shocking news that 29-year-old beloved Bachelor star Gia Allemand, and former Maxim model hanged herself in her New Orleans home that she shared with her boyfriend NBA player Ryan Anderson August 14th 2013.
Recently Ryan spoke to Sports Illustrated about their relationship, and her death.
“I think it’s really important for me to talk about it,” ….. “People need to put a face to [suicide prevention and survival], and I’m OK being that face. I’m not overjoyed that I have to talk about the most painful experience of my life, but either I become that face or I tuck [myself] away in a corner and I let this rule over me.”
Ryan claims that until a few weeks before her death, he was planning on proposing. We knew that the two had just had a very intense argument over speculation by Gia that Ryan had cheated on her. Ryan left telling her “I no longer love you”.
Apparently Gia’s mother, Donna Micheletti, was trying to call Ryan but he didn’t pick up. Micheletti’s husband texted him saying: “There’s something wrong with Gia. You need to go check on her.”
Anderson found her hanging from her staircase and called 911.
Gia was placed in on life support critical condition until she eventually died.
Anderson is now an advocate for women’s issues, and is working with Gia’s mother to create a foundation in Allemand’s name.
Our deepest condolences go out to Gia’s friends and family. She was really beloved by so many including us.
