Southern Charm’s Craig Conover becomes a hot mess: partying, modeling or studying for the BAR?

We are getting to know Southern Charm’s Craig Conover a lot better on season 2 of the show. On season 1 Craig was portrayed as an easy-going law school grad prepping for his BAR exams trying to balance his demanding school and work schedule with his social life.

On season 2 the scales have shifted and there is no balance between studying and partying and it becomes a serious situation.

Craig is the one character who does not come from old money and does not live off of a trust fund. Last year, prior to being consumed by partying the 26-year-old law intern did an interview with Coastal Point to discuss his new found fame and there may have been some warning signs:

“It’s a surreal feeling,” ……. “My friends think it’s awesome. I have ex-girlfriends texting me pictures of me on billboards in New York. When they ran the 30-minute preview, I was getting like 400 Facebook requests an hour. Even though everything is already out there in the age of Facebook and Twitter, I know I can never go back from it.”

Craig is actually a native of Dagsboro Delaware, not Charleston. He attended Indian River High School and the College of Charleston (same college as Shep Rose and Landon Clements) in 2006 and fell in love with South Carolina in college.

“I don’t think you’ll find many other law students that live the life I do,” ….. “You can still have a successful life and successful career, and you don’t have to give up your social life”—yikes…I am not sure if he would say that now.

Apparently Craig had an incredibly understanding and patient employer Akim Anastopoulo, star of the reality show “Judge Extreme Akim”–maybe a little too understanding….

“My co-workers couldn’t have been more supportive,” …… “My boss is one of my biggest supporters. He told me, ‘You’re 25 years old. Do it. You’re young. You’ll always have your law degree.”

So cut to 2015 and Craig’s friends and his employer are really worried about his drinking and partying and his procrastination of his BAR exam.

“I think it’s awesome that the show is finally being made in the South that shows the classier side of down here. It’s going to be a very accurate portrayal of how fun life is down here and show that, as much fun as your life is, you still have problems to deal with.” Well there are definitely “problems” this season, aren’t there.

The show will document Craig’s struggles. Tonight Shep Rose expresses serious concern multiple times to his friend Craig after seeing “his room”. Craig looks a bit emaciated this season and I wonder if his friends are worried about more than alcohol. Both Cameran and Shep suggest Craig is in a downward spiral.

He models tonight for their pal Cooper and it sounds like his new found fame has been a huge distraction. He is now pursuing a career in modeling while he works towards taking his BAR exam, but it sounds like he is losing interest in the BAR.

He supposedly took the BAR in February of 2015 and it doesn’t look like the results have been released as of yet, but we will keep an eye on that situation.

  1. Craig failed the bar! This can be verified by seeing the list of people that passed from SC’s state bar site. Craig’s name is absent!!
