Canada’s first Bachelorette Jasmine Lorimer is engaged to Waterloo Firefighter Kevin Wendt but the ‘journey’ to the engagement was very emotional and difficult.
Jasmine took her final 2, Kevin and Mikhel Sickand to Communist Cuba for a fairytale finale.
Of course part of the ‘journey’ is always the ring selection and in Canada and Australia that selection is with jeweler extraordinaire Michael Hill. So tonight after Jasmine reassures Mikhel and Kevin promises not to ‘bail’ on Jasmine the two men go ring shopping.
Mikhel is very confidant in his relationship with Jasmine and in his engagement ring shopping skills. He instantly chooses two very simple rings.
Mik says,
“Proposing to someone to me symbolizes that I want to commit to them for the rest of my life and this ring when I slide it on her finger should tell her that every time you look at this ring you will think of me and know I trust you and I give myself over to you and I want to share the rest of my life with you.”
Wow! At last a man who understands what engagement actually means.
Mik chooses a single solitaire classic ring.
On the other hand the exercise of having to pick an engagement ring oddly forces Kevin to confront the reality that he may actually be saying goodbye to Jasmine forever the next day —– so he’s feeling kind of blue.
It’s obvious from his diatribe and from his Hometown Date that Kevin has been repressing an entire lifetime of feelings and the floodgates are about to open so he has brought …………. not a wash-cloth, not a hand towel, but an entire BATH towel from his hotel room to drown his tears during his final ITM with production.
Kevin says that he “gave Jasmine an out”. He told her,
“you can’t go wrong with a guy like Mik. There’s no one I respect more..I think he’s different than me but at the same time he’s a good catch and a good man..and I gave her an out…I said let me deal with this and I’ll go home. I can deal with this. I dont know if he can.”
Like I keep saying…in this novela we have 3 Enneagram 6’s on our hands!—which means we have a surplus of loyalty and a deficit of leadership.
K Wen continues,
“Then you can just enjoy your last day of knowing that your decisions, made. You can sleep tonight. You can make sure your happy and it just know that I’ll be Ok…try to take the burden off her. I would rather her just be happy right now —- she was so stressed and so sad”
He actually gets so emotional that he ducks out of frame and asks cameras to leave because things just got “real”.
I love it when things get “real”.
This sad scene of Kevin sobbing into a hotel bath towel is juxtaposed with Kevin meeting with a Michael Hill ring rep to make his final choice. In the end he chooses a 1 1/2 carat diamond Arpeggio ring. Featuring a 1/2 carat oval diamond at its center, and a double halo and diamond set split shank shoulders, set in 14kt white gold.
A gorgeous ring, but the two may not be able to enjoy it for long! Looks like there is some serious trouble in paradise.
Anyhow my favorite part was when Kevin was being interviewed as he was about to head out to the proposal. He says,
“she probably has her mind pretty much made up by now”. I hope so!
