Chris Harrison explains the Michelle Kujawa situation on Bachelor in Paradise

The Bachelor in Paradise premiere was amazing! Really, it was so much better than I expected. I was worried with the cast of characters, most of which I could not even remember, that I would be bored, but boy was I wrong!

So the cast is dropped off in an exotic location in Tulum, Mexico compliments of ABC where they will be free to fall in love. But it appears to be a bit less of an exotic location and a bit more of a hostage situation.

So the biggest situation aside from Clare Crawley’s 1-on-1 with a Mexican raccoon was Michelle Kujawa’s bizarre, abrupt self elimination on night ONE, because she did not feel a “connection” with anyone yet!

In fact, Chris starts by saying “just to be sure, is everyone here single? And Michelle says she only “may” be single! Because as she puts it “this is paradise”! Boy I’ll say! If you can find your life partner in 24 hours between baggage claim and your bus drive to Tulum, it must be really good!

Then the previews shows a serious situation going down the morning after she self-eliminates. Producers, camera-men, boom mic operators–everyone enter frame to bang on Michelle’s hotel room door and confront her about something–cut to guy with casts on both legs!

So Chris explained the situation in his EW blog today:

“The oddest story this week for me was Michelle K. The day I welcomed the cast and explained the rules I started off with a rather flippant question about everybody being single. I really wasn’t being that serious as I assumed everybody was, I mean, Why the hell else would you be here? Everybody kind of chuckled, except Michelle K., who said “maybe.” When I heard that, I figured she was joking, so I gave her the chance to make her little joke and move on, but it only got worse when she made it very clear she may not be single.”….

“She was awkward, and it was an odd way to start the new show, but I let it slide. But then Michelle K. was completely checked out the entire first week. She had nothing to do with any of the guys and made no attempt to start a relationship or get a rose.”

“She stepped forward at the rose ceremony and in the same awkward fashion she came on the show, she decided to oddly leave the show. You could see by everybody’s reactions nobody had any clue what this girl was up to. But then, in her final interview she made what she probably thought was a cute sly comment about the fact that maybe she’s already found love in Paradise. At this point things started to add up and they didn’t add up in her favor! Next week you’ll see and hear much more about Michelle K. She’s off the show, but her time here in Paradise is far from over.”

Major party foul Michelle. What are the chances this new relationship is gonna work? But, that said. She was certainly entertaining! Which led me to ask producers on Twitter if they intentionally cast people with personality disorders or is it just coincidence? Because this cast is amazing!!!
