On Tuesday night’s finale of the FYI reality series “Married at First Sight” Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis decided to stay married and appeared blissfully happy, but I thought it was interesting that Jamie made a comment indicating that they were not “in love” yet.
Jamie and Doug were one of the most interesting couples because the attraction and the feelings were not there at all for Jamie in the beginning. And props to the experts – sexologist, Dr. Logan Levkoff; spiritualist, Greg Epstein; psychologist, Dr. Joseph Cilona; and sociologist, Dr. Pepper Schwartz – for taking such a chance on this couple. In fact by the end of the 5 weeks they still had not consummated their love.
In a NY Post interview the two talk about the journey and the current status of their relationship:
“We got a chance to really figure each other out mentally and emotionally, and the physical part, it obviously comes around,” Hehner claims. “Between the experts and the experiment, we took care of two years of getting to know each other [in five weeks].”
“We already knew the worst of each other,” Jamie adds. “Now we’re absolutely in love and definitely going to be staying together, and I couldn’t be happier.”
And BTW the two have finally had sex!!
“The fact that Doug never, ever pressured me . . . that was by far the hottest trait,” Jamie says.
The couple is currently living in Washington Heights but looking for a place in New Jersey to be closer to Hehner’s job and family, and so they can start a family. “We both envision children in the future — possibly in the near future,” Hehner says.
A two-hour reunion special, “Married at First Sight: Six Months Later,” will air Sept. 16 at 9 p.m.
