It’s no secret that Real Housewives producer Andy Cohen often likes to shake things up by trying different cast members on his hit reality series, but often the new cast members fall flat. But with new Beverly Hills housewife Erika Jayne, 44, Andy hit a homerun.
So how in the world did Bravo find the mega situation known as Erika Jayne aka Erika Girardi?
Erika recently did an interview in the LA Times where she reveals the details about the circumstances that led to her starring on the 2016 season of the show.
“Tom and I were at [cast members] Yolanda and David Foster’s house in Malibu and we were chatting. I think something had happened and they needed some cast members. Yolanda asked if I had ever thought about doing the show. And at first I was confused because I had never watched the show.”
How could she not watch the show considering her friend Yolanda starred on it?!!!
The interviewer asks:
“You hadn’t seen the show? Beverly Hills or any of the franchise?
I hadn’t seen any of them. But I knew who the women were. It’s impossible not to because the show is so big. But I had never thought about … me being on the show. [Longtime friend] Yolanda said it could be a great way to challenge yourself and to step outside of my comfort zone. She said, “It’s just a phone call.” I had a really nice phone call and before I knew it, I was on tape and now I’m on the show.”
Erika Jayne has actually been a well known pop star since 2007, but despite her fame she managed to remain rather insulated.
“How has being on the show pushed your music?
“When I was performing as Erika Jayne exclusively, no one knew about this life. No one knew about my husband. No one knew about my son. The people who came to the show, they don’t want to see that. They don’t want to see a 44-year-old woman onstage. They want to believe the fantasy. ……But that’s what makes “Housewives” such a unique opportunity. Those who knew me as Erika Jayne now get to see me as Erika Girardi as well. It’s kinda great. Obviously I’ve made a lot more fans — and a lot more friends.”
Well they certainly know all about you now Mrs. Girardi!
