The plot thickens on the case of Married at First Sight star David Norton‘s shocking 2007 arrest for domestic violence. Apparently MAFS knew about David’s arrest record, but did not disclose it to Ashley. In fact they found out about it after the two were married.
We were the first to report the arrest after seeing allegations on social media and prior to David actually conceding to the fact that it was him. And when we looked at the arrest record we noted that it was accessed the week that David and Ashley were married and that that had to be the show vetting him, but rather late in the process.
But apparently according to In Touch it was accessed but not sent to A&E until after the two were married.
In Touch says that a written request for David’s court case was submitted by DLS Background Services, Inc. on June 4, 2015 — three days before the two were married. But interestingly, the records weren’t sent until June 29. And A&E never told Ashley about the arrest.
“[Ashley] feels duped,” her mother, Mary Harnois says.
“I blame the show. She feels like she was let down in a big way because they told her they do background checks. So when someone tells you that, you’re like, ‘Okay, well at least they won’t have a criminal past.’”
Ashley’s mom claims that there were several red flags early on. (This is a question that I had had).
“One thing I remember my daughter telling me from almost the beginning, when they’d started to live together, was, ‘He’s a door-slammer’…… “And a couple of times, she said he got in her face. But of course they’re not going to show that on camera because they portrayed him as Mr. Wonderful.”
The police report revealed that David flew in to a rage when his ex girlfriend came home after not returning home the night before. He smashed her cell phone, screamed at her and followed her from room to room. The report revealed that even the police witnessed him throw her to the ground as she tried to run out of the apartment.
“In hindsight, I’m thinking, ‘Oh my God, this was a recipe for disaster,’” Ashley’s mom says. “Yes, this was a social experiment, but it was also a marriage, and when you go into that, you expect full disclosure. She didn’t get that. And that is the show’s fault.”
I smell a lawsuit! Maybe Davina Kuller and Jessica Castro should all team up for one giant lawsuit against A&E. I am shocked after last season. I just assumed they would go over all of these men with a fine tooth comb after what happened with Sean and Ryan.
Regardless I have a feeling that this fad of reality shows where people get married on the spot to a random stranger are seriously numbered.
