Clare Crawley and Benoît Savard engaged!
Bachelor Winter Games concluded tonight with some very sweet relationships and one epic engagement, Kevin and Ashley, Courtney and Clare, Dean and Lesley, and one more couple that everyone thought was done: Benoît Savard and Clare Crawley.
Yep, Clare seemed totally uninterested in Benoît on the show. When she gave him the boot early on he bawled uncontrollably into her chunky sweater. She then tried to move on to a handsome, hardy, chiseled bullheaded German named Christian Rauch, but Clare had an epiphany after her tepid Jacuzzi time with Christian.
She let the wrong guy go. She wanted a guy that would aggressively pursue her and profess his affection for her. That guy was Benoit.
So cut to Clare leaving Manchester, Vermont and going back home to Sacramento. She received a sweet text from the compassionate Canadian asking if she was OK.
“At that point, I was just thinking, ‘She’s ending up with Christian,’” Beauséjour-Savard says. “The sentence that kept running through my mind was, ‘It’s not the end of the two of us.’ But I knew at that moment that she may have fell for him.”
“It’s overwhelming, it’s crazy,” Crawley tells PEOPLE of the engagement.
“Going on these Bachelor shows is a huge risk and you don’t know the outcome. It’s scary, but it’s a risk that you have to take to get the good in the end.”
“I didn’t expect this,” Benoit adds. “I was heartbroken onThe Bachelorette: Canada but going back on this show I had an open mind.
I was realistic that there might not be someone for me. But like you’ve seen on TV, I had the biggest crush ever on her. [But then] it wasn’t a crush, it was developing into something really deep and strong.”
On the show the two barely kissed. Clare seemed like she was in the friend zone from the start, but I guess she had a serious change of heart.
ABC pulled out their ninja editing skills and kept showing clips of Dean Unglert proposing to Lesley Murphy, but I had a feeling it had to be Benoit because he was there with a Neil Lane ring in his pocket. That much I knew.
“(Neil) didn’t have the one I was looking for, so he built a custom one, which is amazing,” he says. “It was exactly what I asked, and he did the best job ever.
It blows my mind. It was the first time that I had to shop for this, and it will be the last one for sure. It’s kind of stressful, but I’m glad she likes it.”
Beauséjour-Savard claimed that the decision to propose was recent, but he did ask Crawley’s family for their blessing over FaceTime. I can just imagine that sitch! Remember Clare’s sister on Juan Pablo’s season?
“They’re really close to each other and mostly women,” he says. “I think to have another man in their life, they were wishing that to happen for Clare. It’s just the best thing right now.” He continues:
“We’re two sensitive people, two intense people. Go big or home. I love her so much, you have no idea, and she’s just the best so, why not? I wanted to.”
Aww, Congrats Clare and Benoit!!!!
