There are a lot of firsts on this season of The Bachelorette and one of those “firsts” is the return of a runner up to pursue the lead.

I’m sure you have heard by now that runner-up Nick Viall, 34 shows up during the season to date Kaitlyn and the guys are outraged. It seems a bit odd that Nick would be cast, but these two had apparently been flirting for some time over social media–so in a way Nick has an unfair advantage.

In fact I remember seeing the tweets. On Feb. 23 Viall said…

“Kaitlyn is the total package. She will be just fine,” ……. “I like how Kaitlyn carries herself.”

In March he said: “I’m pretty [sure] I would never be bored around Kaitlyn,” ….. “Oh and Kaitlyn is incredible.”

So here’s a bombshell, Kaitlyn revealed that she and Nick had been friends before she left to become the Bachelorette. Usually the leads do not know their suitors—actually never. But Nick wanted to date her.

“It was a friendship in my mind. I hadn’t even thought of a relationship with him,” she explained to ETonline. “And then I saw him and he booked a one-way ticket, and he left his job and it was for me, there was a sliver of a chance that I see somebody that I could spend my life with, I’m going to explore that.”

So when does Nick Viall show up on the Bachelorette? He doesn’t arrive until episode 4 (but does not join officially until episode 5) so this may explain why the guys are so angry.

Is it possible that Kaitlyn and Nick met up after she inked The Bachelorette deal and had chemistry, but she still wanted to do the show for the fame?

Well knowing how fame-hungry and audacious Nick is and going by the rumors about Kaitlyn also being fame-hungry and manipulative—particularly the rumors that she was dating Trevor Partlo during Soules season of The Bachelor and telling him she was just acting, I’d say it’s a strong possibility.

Needless to say the other guys are angry when Nick walks on to a group date.
