More than 20,000 people applied for season 3 of MAFS!

Even after an epically disastrous season 2, Married at First Sight is shockingly more popular than ever with applicants. In People Magazine, CEO of Kinetic Content Chris Coelen, which produces the show, stated that number of applicants for season 3 had escalated to over 20,000 from a mere 7,000 in season 2 and less than 1,000 in season 1. When asked: To what do you attribute the exponential growth of people wanting to participate in such a radical social experiment? Chris said,

In season 1, the experiment was brand new and nobody knew what to expect. Now people have seen the experiment and many have been compelled to apply as a result. The desire to be loved and be in love is a fundamental human need, yet nobody finds it easy. Single culture has become an epidemic and many people are lonely and prepared to try a new approach to achieving their romantic goals, as indicated by the fact that online dating is now a multi-billion dollar industry. Married at First Sight offers a new approach to the idea of arranged marriage which has been tried and tested for centuries.

I wonder if potential contestants also discovered the little secret that aside from ever-lasting love there is a nice payout. Last year after season 2 despite a sizable payout all 3 women walked away from their chosen husbands.

Had they continued to stay together they would have received as much as $40,000 per episode.

So I don’t know despite over 20,000 applicants I’m not sure these experts are getting any better at matching couples. Season 3 has been sort of a disaster thus far.

Here are the couples….

29-year-old David Norton is partnered with 30-year-old Ashley Doherty.

26-year-old Vanessa Nelson is paired with 27-year-old Tres Russell.

30-year-old Samantha Role is paired with 31-year-old Neil Bowlus.
